A Cow Day

I thought it was about time we had another Cow Day.
If you have followed my blogging efforts for a while you will know that my favourite animal is the Cow.

This is a herd of Cows used for rearing beef cattle which currently are grazing in the Parkland that I regularly walk.

Wonderful animals Cows, if you think about it what would we do without them.

The immature Pied Wagtail on the path is being closely watched by one of these calves and is not quite sure what it is.

In my youth it was easy. There were Herefords, Aberdeen Angus, Devon (all beef cattle) Friesians (now called Holsteins) Ayrshires, Shorthorns, Jersey and Guernsey Cattle (all dairy cattle)
Now there is such a mix of breeds that I don't have clue what they are called anymore.

  1. Beautiful cows!! One of my favorite things about cows is their curiousity! For instance, if there is a man working on a telephone pole next to a cow field, all the cows will be circled around the bottom of the pole watching. They are so funny!

  8. I love cows too! I guess growing up on a Texas cattle ranch has a little to do with that. We raised Herefords. One time while on a motorcycle trip in Montana, we had stopped on the side of the road to take a picture of the mountains reflecting in a large pond, only to turn around and find about 30 head of cattle standing at the fence looking at us. We just started laughing...that was the picture to take! Too funny!

  9. Roy, what fun to see all these cows! They are so peaceful and comical to look at. They seem to not have a care in the world. I have milked both Holsteins and Jerserys when I was younger. Now it is a crime to buy or sell raw milk in the USA. Go figure!
